My Promise to my Hair

If you follow me on instagram you might have seen that I recently chopped off my hair.Processed with VSCO with c1 preset I’ve wanted long hair, and have been growing it out for the past two years – so it wasn’t my favorite thing to let go of those 5 inches. But I had to. Those five inches were fried beyond repair – and no amount of masks was going to save them.

My natural hair colour is a light brunette – blonde highlights in the summer thanks to the sun – but fairly dark compared to the light colour I am currently sporting. I’ve wanted to be platinum for about two years now. I went from black, yes black (another impulse dye decision), to this (almost) white in the span of about five to six months. I coveted Dove Cameron’s platinum locks. For whatever reason I thought that’s what would look the best on me, or not even so much that it looked good – but I pure and simple wanted to be blonde.

Flash forward to me looking at myself in the mirror and realizing that the length I have has got to go. For two months I had been wearing my hair up and when I had it down it looked awful.  So I pulled out the scissors and handed them to my grandmother.

Processed with VSCO with c1 presetShe got chopping. A little more literally than figuratively but it’s okay. It’s much shorter than I wanted it but it doesn’t look bad – and it’s much healthier.

Which brings me to my promise to my hair. I’m done bleaching it. I’m done dying it. Anything that grows in now – my roots onward is going to remain untouched. The plan is once my roots grow in a bit to match the rest of my hair to them and never touch it again. I’m saying this to you guys to hold myself accountable.

This isn’t to say don’t die your hair, it’s just I’ve noticed it’s not healthy. My hair used to grow in a lot thicker, and be a lot softer than it is now. So here’s to growing a healthy head of hair!
